NEW YORK TITANS POWELL AND PARK VOTED 2008 NLL ALL-STARS

New York, NY - The New York Titans' Captain Casey Powell and Titans transition player Jarett Park have been chosen to represent the East in the 2008 National Lacrosse League All-Star Game on Sunday, March 16th at Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Powell was just named NLL Offensive and Over-All Player of the Week for his performance in the Titans 14-11 victory over defending champs the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, February 23 at Blue Cross Arena. Powell was the points leader in the game with nine off of three goals and six assists, a season high for Powell. He also scooped up eight loose balls in the win.

Currently, Powell is second in the league in points with 48, one point behind Buffalo's John Tavares. He is seventh in the league in scoring, with 19 goals, and third in the league in assists with 29.

"Casey is having another fine year in New York," said Titans head coach Adam Mueller. "He is a big reason why we have improved this season. His power play and five-on-five work speaks for itself, but he is also playing well on the face-off line and on defense when it presents itself. Teams seem to be focusing on him a bit more this season and he is learning to change with the defenses presented to be a major factor in our games."

This is the second time Powell has made an appearance in the All-Star game as a Titan and the fifth time in his six-year career. Powell and Ryan Boyle represented the East in the All-Star Game last season in which the East defeated the West 20-16. Powell scored two goals and dished two assists in the win and was the East Division winner of the All-Star Skills Competition for Best Trick.

This is the first time Jarett Park has been voted to the NLL All-Star team. The right-handed transition player is one of the fastest players in the NLL. Often responsible for doing some of the Titans' dirty work on the field, Park is a loose ball machine and has become Titans' draw-man Jamie Hanford's go-to guy during face-offs. Park has snatched 91 loose balls, which is second in the league behind the Jax' Brodie Merrill, who has 97.

In the Titans' game against the Buffalo Bandits at home on February 10th, Park went coast to coast to score a fast break goal in the fourth quarter to bring the Titans into the lead. The goal, his second of the season, energized the crowd and the Titans, who went onto win 10-9 in a thrilling overtime victory. Park earned Transition Player of the week for his performance in that game, in which he scored one goal and scooped up a season-high 19 loose balls.

"For Jarett to be selected to the All-Star game in just his third season is an amazing accomplishment," Mueller said. "His speed and athleticism on face-offs and out of our defensive end is what he is known for but he is also playing very good on 5-on-5 defense and man-short defense."

Both Powell and Park are Syracuse grads. Powell graduated from Syracuse in 1998 as a three-time All-American, with one NCAA Championship under his belt. Park graduated from Syracuse in 2005 and won two NCAA Championships in 2002 and 2004.

At the All-Star Game on March 16, the East and West Division teams will each have six starters and 12 reserves for a total of 18 players on each All-Star Team.
